Inside your car's engine , fuel burning. A lot of heat from burning itself out of the exhaust system , but some of it soaks into the engine , heating it up. Engine in good condition when the air is about 200 degrees Fahrenheit ( 93 degrees Celsius ) .
There are two types of cooling systems found on cars : liquid-cooled and air-cooled
.
Liquid cooling ( liquid cooling )
The cooling system of the car using a cold fluid circulating through the pipes and passages in the engine. As the liquid . through the hot engine it absorbs heat , cooling the engine. After the fluid through the engine , it passes through a heat exchanger , the or radiator , which transfers heat from the fluid to the air blowing through the heat exchanger
Air cooling ( water cooling )
Some older cars using air cooling , and less used in modern cars . air cooling liquid circulates through the engine, the engine block is cooled through the aluminum fins that conduct heat from the cylinder. A fan using the air through these fins , which cools the engine by transferring the heat to the air .
Since most cars is a liquid-cooled , we will focus on systems in this article .
pipes ( plumbing )
The cooling system in your car has a lot of pipes . We start at the pump and the plumbing through the system, and in the next sections we will talk about each part of the system in more detail.
The pump sends the fluid into the engine block , where it makes its way around the cylinder in the engine . Then it was back through the engine cylinder head . Thermostat is located where the fluid leaves the engine. Piping around the thermostat sends the fluid back to the pump directly if the thermostat is closed. If it is open , the fluid goes through the radiator first and then back to the pump.
There is also a separate circuit for the heating system . This circuit takes fluid from the cylinder head and through the heater core and then back to the pump.
fluid (fluid)
Cars operate in a wide temperature range, from deep frozen bawahtahap to more than 100 F (38 C). So whatever fluid is used to cool the engine should have a very low freezing point, high boiling point, and it must have the ability to hold a lot of heat.
Liquid water is one of the most effective ways to reduce the heat, but water freezes at a temperature that is too high to be used in car engines. Fluid using the car is a mixture of water and ethylene glycol (C2H6O2), also known as antifreeze. By adding ethylene glycol to water, the boiling and freezing increased significantly.
